UTILITY-BASED ANALYTICAL METHODS TO ENSURE PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY SECURITY

An approach to analysis of water supply for the presence of harmful substances. Evaluation of continuous online monitoring systems and analytical methods for the detection of sudden changes in water quality. There is a need for broad-spectrum tests that can rapidly indicate the occurrence of unusual substances in raw or finished water. The acute toxicity screening methods appear to be some of the most useful and usable security testing methods available for use at a utility level. However, additional research needs to be done to establishing the accuracy and reproducibility of those methods for this particular application.
