Managing roe deer and their impact on the environment: maximising the net benefits to society (chap. 14)
The European Roe Deer book tittled "Biology of Success" analyses why that species has been so successful and emphasises the contributions to our understanding to ungulate biology (from evolution through physiology to behaviour and population dynamics). The chapter 14 of the European Roe Deer Group reviews the issues and approaches to roe deer management. The methods used to evaluate the state of the roe deer populations are reviewed. Then, the authors address the following questions " how are offtake rates determined ". At least, damages to forestry, factors affecting their extent and the ways to reduce them are presented.
