IN SITU SEQUENCED BIOREMEDIATION OF MIXED CONTAMINANTS IN GROUNDWATER
Depollution treatment of a sandy aquifer where a mixture of organic contaminants (carbon tetrachloride CT evolving into chloroforme CF, tetrachloroethene PCE and toluene TOL) were introduced artificially. In situ groundwater depollution treatment consists in two passive sequenced technologies (anaerobic then aerobic). Evaluation against an isolated aquifer section with natural attenuation : both TOL and PCE degraded more rapidly under depollution treatment, while CT and CF attenuation remained similar to natural (suggesting that TOL helped sustaining a useful reducing environment).
