A PROTOTYPE STUDY FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF SURFACE WATER RESOURCES, LEBANON

The paper assesses water quality of Qaraaoun reservoir for multipurpose use, in the perspective of suggesting policy implications for surface water management. Currently limited to irrigation and power production, the study determines a zone suitable for multiple use. It underlines the need for an integrated approach to the management of water resources and details the many environmental, methodological, informational, as well as institutional, legal and financial constraints which usually hinder such an approach.
