PERSPECTIVES ON ANAEROBIC TREATMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Overview of the anaerobic process applied as consolided technology on the latin-american continent. Emphasis is given to domestic sewage treatment,especially to the compact system composed of an anaerobic reactor followed by sequencing batch reactors (SBR) and dissolved-air-flotation (DAF)systems. Low-strenth industrial wastewaters and domestic sewage treatment make this technology even more attractive under the perspective of sustainable development.
