THE PERSISTENCE AND REMOVAL OF ENTERIC PATHOGENS IN CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS
Study about removal of wastewater pathogens in wetlands.
Sediments of artificial wetlands, built for the purpose of wastewater treatment, accumulate significant concentrations of pathogens, indicating that sedimentation is one of the mechanisms involved in the reduction of pathogens from artificial wetlands. Sedimentation of pathogens in vegetated wetlands appears to be size related with higher sedimentation of larger particles. Wetland sediments prolong the survival of bacteria and virus but not parasites.
