PAC-MEMBRANE FILTRATION PROCESS. I : MODEL DEVELOPMENT. II : MODEL APPLICATION

CAMPOS C. / MARINAS B. J. / SNOEYINK V. L. / et al. - ARTICLE DE PERIODIQUE - 2000
Membrane technologies and activated carbon. A reactor with a membrane filtration unit with a pre - adsorption onto activated carbon powder is presented. The paper is divided in two parts: firstly a model of the system and then a comparison with experimental data. For the modelization, adsorption kinetic is assumed to occur by homogeneous surface diffusion. The external transfer is negligible and Freundlich's equation is used to describe adsorption. The adsorption process is considered as continuous stirred reactor or a steady state operation. The membrane reactor is modeled as a non steady state system. A parametric analysis is developed. Influence of filtration time, membrane reactor volume and carbon dose is studied. A good agreement is found between experimental and calculated data.
