FULL-SCALE EXPERIENCE FOR NITROGEN REMOVAL FROM PIGGERY WASTE

Nitrification-denitrification of piggery wastewater. Comparisons between three full scale plants (2 anoxic-aerobic processes and 1 anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic system) were performed in terms of COD and nitrogen removal. The operating conditions (temperature, residence time, additional external carbon source, and alkalinity) were studied on the outlet wastewater quality. Temperature (less than 35 °C), the ration COD/TKN (more than 6) and alkalinity/TKN (greater than 3) play a key role in the performances of these treatments.
