FIRST FLUSH AND NATURAL AGGREGATION OF PARTICLES IN HIGHWAY RUNOFF

Highway runoff pollution due to the presence of heavy metals on small particles is examined. Particle size distribution (PSD) is monitored at highway sites in Los Angeles. The PSD is analysed versus the runoff volume transported. A naturally small particles aggregation is observed. Experiments are performed to validate the influence of mixing on particle aggregation, in the aim of benefits for sedimentation and filtration.
