DIE ERWEITERUNG DER HAUPTKLARANLAGE WIENEIN JAHRHUNDERTBAUWERK = EXTENSION OF VIENNA'S MAIN SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS - A DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT

Vienna's main sewage treatment works was brought into operation in 1980. It was designed as a mechanical/biological facility, using the contaminant-intensive activated-sludge method for the biological part. In the light of increasing clarification requirements, a project has been developed providing for a second biological purification stage using special methods, such as the bypass an hybrid systems. Full operation of the extended treatment works has started in June 2005.
