This third International Water Forum of
Istanbul, which was held from 27 to
29 May 2014, contributed to the next
7
th
World Forum of Daegu by focusing
its discussions on two main themes:
water security and regulatory frame-
works forwatermanagement.
During thematic sessions, water/food secu-
rity/energy/environment nexus, adaptation to
climate change, development of international
cooperation in transboundary basins, right of
access to water and sanitation, improved
regulations to ensure effective protection of
resources, were extensively discussed.

Manager, took an active part in the discus-
sions onwater security and sustainabledeve-
lopment objectives and chaired a session on
the legal frameworks for water resourcesma-
nagement.
INBO
also participated in the presentation of
theOECDWater Governance Initiative.
The International Office for Water,
meanwhile, participated in two side events:

Water security and regulatory frameworks
The 17
th
River Symposiumwas held in
Canberra, Australia, from 15 to 18 Sep-
tember 2014 in the Murray-Darling
River Basin.
This basin, which received a large part of the
13 billion dollars committed since 2007 by
the Australian Government to the water re-
form, served as a background to the discus-
sions under thegeneral themeof ”LargeRiver
Basins”.
The International River Symposium is suppor-
tedby
theGlobal Partnership for thePro-
motion of IntegratedRiver BasinMana-
gement,
which includes the International
River Foundation, the Nature Conservancy,
theWorldWide Fund for Nature (WWF),
the
International Network of Basin Organi-
zations,
the Global Environment Fund, the
International Union for Conservation of
Nature, the International Commission for the
Protectionof theDanubeand theGreat Rivers
Partnership.
The symposium is a true international plat-
form for sharing knowledge and innovative
ideas on all aspects of river management
around the world. It intends to be a ”think-
tank” bringing out the best practices.

Secretary of
the International Network of
Basin Organizations,
was invited to pre-
sent the final conclusions of the Symposium.
The 2014 “International River Prize” was
awarded to theCommission for theProtection
of the Rhine.
