Video HET - Hole Erosion Test (laboratory internal erosion test)

The Hole Erosion Test is a laboratory geotechnical test to characterize concentrated leak erosion. A very large class of soils can be tested, from extremely low strength cohesive soils, to lime-treated soils, from remoulded samples to intact samples. The interpretation provides two geotechnical parameters: the critical stress (the threshold of erosion), and the coefficient of erosion (the erosion kinetics). Robin Fell was the first expert to promote this new geotechnical test in the years 2000. The Hole Erosion Test is nowadays currently used in France to study the safety of old and new levees, dikes, and earthfill dams.
