TRACER DIFFUSION FROM A HORIZONTAL FRACTURE INTO THE SURROUNDING MATRIX: MEASUREMENT BY COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY
Schematic description of the experimental set-up for diffusion experiment of a tracer solution (NaI) in a fractured chalky core (10 x 5 cm). A medical scanner produces two-dimensional slices through the rock sample. Scanning times during diffusion are given for different images of computed tomography (CT). Determination of porosity distribution, accuracy and repeatability of the CT measurements. Results and discussion on tracer distribution during time and according the distance from the fracture. Conceptualisation of the fracture-matrix interface and comparison between measured (scanned) and modelled NaI concentrations on different scan sequences.
