TEMPORAL AND SPATIAL VARIATION OF ANNUAL RAINFALL ON THE ISLAND OF CRETE, GREECE

Database for a GIS layer is presented for elevation data, contour lines, shorelines, political boundaries, altitude and location of rain gauges, and monthly rainfall values. Definition of digital elevation model (DEM), of flow-direction and accumulation grid generation, of delineating watersheds .The estimating areal precipitation is approached by interpolation techniques and missing records by statistical equations. Results and discussion concern spatial and temporal rainfall characteristics, frequency analysis and trend analysis results on 30 years of annual records.
