TASTE AND ODOR EPISODES IN DRINKING WATERS : SOLVED AND UNSOLVED CASE STUDIES AND NEEDS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH
There are only 4 basic tastes perceived by the taste buds of the mouth: salty, sweet, bitter and acid. Stimuli perceived when drinking are due to volatile organics detected by the nose or the nasopharynx. Use of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to identify some organics.
