THE SCIENTIFIC BASIS OF FLOCCULATOR DESIGN

A guideline for design of flocculators based on the calculation of a characteristic reaction time for the loss of one micrometer particles for continuous flow reactors. The paper reviews equations that describe the change in concentration of particles, the concept of characteristic reaction time applied to the flocculation reaction, existing design guidelines presented by Camp, Ives and O'Melia based on monodisperse suspensions.
