REMOVAL AND RECOVERY OF PHOSPHATE AND AMMONIUM AS STRUVITE FROM SUPERNATANT IN ANAEROBIC DIGESTION
Reaction kinetics and design parameters of struvite production (generated by phosphate, ammonium nitrogen, magnesium and hydroxide ions) are experimentally investigated through a batch experiment using artificial wastewater sludge (from a sewage treatment plant) and a continuous struvite generation. The experiments were performed in anaerobic conditions and used basic reaction type and draft-tube type reactors. A developed equation is verified for its applicability. 92% removal and recovery efficiency with effluent phosphorus concentration of 17 mg/l is achieved under 4 minutes time and a pH of 8.5
