NUTRIENT REMOVAL IN THE RIVER BASIN OF THE RUHR - A GERMAN CASE STUDY

Investment program to reduce the ammonia-nitrogen and total phosphorus loads in the river Rurh from 1990 through upgrading wastewater and stormwater treatment plants above the legal requirements of this 21 million population equivalent area. The anticipated decrease in ammonia-nitrogen in winter is particularly important for drinking water production from the river water.
