NITROGEN REMOVAL FROM DIGESTER SUPERNATANT VIA NITRITE ?SBR OR SHARON ?
Based on pilot and full-scale results, this report compares the nitrogen removal potential via nitrite for digester supernatant in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and a continuous flow reactor (SHARON) system. A nitrogen removal efficiency of over 90 % can be maintained in SBR and SHARON modes. The SHARON process is simple in operation but the tank volume has to be significantly greater than in SBR.
