Study of the occurrence and removal of pathogens (E. Coli, Salmonels, etc.) in residential wastewater samples carried out at 3 representative planted soil filters after preliminary treatment. Multistage planted soil filters are demonstrated to be more efficient than single-stage treatment plants and are in agreement with European Directives on bathing and irrigation waters. No significant differences were found between horizontal and vertical filters.
