MICROBIAL QUANTIFICATION IN ACTIVATED SLUDGE : THE HITS AND MISSES
Quantification of Nitrospira in the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate in biological nutrient removal. Two molecular genetic methods, real-time polymerase chain reaction and fluorescence in situ hybridisation followed by digital image analysis were described and compared Advantages and disadvantages of both methods are discussed.
