LIMNOLOGY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

GOPAL B. / WETZEL R. G. - LIVRE - 1999
Two volumes (2 and 3) of the series published by the International Association for Theoretical and Applied Limnology (SIL) ‘as part of its effort to support and encourage limnological studies in all developing countries'. Each volume presents reviews of the limnological knowledge of particular countries. The second contains reviews of Costa Rica, Uruguay, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Morocco; the third contains reviews of Algeria, Belize, Colombia and Malawi. The country's general geographic features are described in relation to limnology, specific interesting and important aspects of the limnology are discussed, the state of the art in the country is discussed and problems and directions are highlighted, and to varying extents the socio-political constraints are mentioned. The treatments given by the different authors reflect the diversity of their countries but in general they give a balanced treatment of all aspects of limnology.
