Investigation of NOM size, structure and functionality (SSF): impact on water treatment process with respect to disinfection by-products formation
Improving conventional treatment plants by adopting process evaluation procedures in order to minimise haloacetic acid (HAA) formation and facilitate the selection of a better alternative process to maximise process performance. Such integrated evaluations were shown to be useful for the selection of advanced alternative membrane processes in order to maximise the removal of hydrophilic natural organic matter (NOM) fractions, which have a relatively high HAA producing potential.
