ISOTOPIC MODELLING OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BACTERIAL SULPHATE REDUCTION FOR PHENOL ATTENUATION IN A CONTAMINATED AQUIFER
Long term pollutant attenuation and degradation processes are discussed. Methods, sampling and stable isotopes analysis are described on experimental on field site. Discussion on concentration profiles of the dominant phenolic hydrocarbons at boreholes. Diagrams of sulphate-sulfur isotope variation againts SO4 concentration. Interaction with bacterial sulphate reduction. Plot of total phenolic concentration (phenols,creosols,xylenols) againts isotope. Trend of isotopes with depth for different boreholes.Inverse modelling of the process , calculation of pore-reduction and present day sulphate concentration.
