IRRIGATION SECTOR IN SRI LANKA. RECENT INVESTMENT TRENDS AND THE DEVELOPMENT PATH AHEAD

This paper tries to answer to the questions if is the irrigation sector in Sri Lanka adapting well to the actual situation and what will be the future of the sector, by documenting in irrigation investment in both public and private sectors. A conceptual framework is provided for the development phases of irrigated agriculture. The paper concludes with suggestions for attaining higher productivity and sustainability of irrigated agriculture.
