INFLUENCE OF PHYTOPLANKTON COMPOSITION ON BIOMASS REMOVAL FROM HIGH-RATE OXIDATION LAGOONS BY MEANS OF SEDIMENTATION AND SPONTANEOUS FLOCCULATION

GARCIA J. / HERNANDEZ-MARINE M. / MUJERIEGO R. - ARTICLE DE PERIODIQUE - 2000
Wastewater treatments by a high rate oxidation ponds or lagoons. Influence of phytoplankton species composition on biomass sedimentation or spontaneous flocculation was studied. A pilot unit was used during one year. Influence of different hydraulic retention times and total suspended solid (TSS) concentrations show that it was impossible, during about 6 months, to obtain a concentration of 30 mg/L of TSS in the outlet water of the process. An additional treatment such as pH correction or chemical addition with a clarifier is required.
