FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEM MANAGEMENT : FROM THEORY TO APPLICATION
The paper outlines the contours of freshwater ecosystem management - a concept which distinguishes itself from more "traditional" approaches by, inter alia, taking into account the economic value of ecosystem services. After underlining the theoretical underpinnings and potential limitations of the approach, it presents key aspects of ecosystem management within an integrated water resources management framework. It concludes with case-studies.
