FERRATES (IRON(VI) AND IRON(V)): ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY OXIDANTS AND DISINFECTANTS

Disinfection by iron anions. Ferrates (iron (VI and (V)) were used as oxidants against organics pollutants and disinfectants to inactivate a large variety of microorganisms. Comparisons between the two ferrates are performed in terms of by-products formation and disinfection power. Examples are given to demonstrate the multifunctional properties of theses anions in water and wastewater treatments.
