EVALUATION OF USEPA METHOD 1622 FOR DETECTION OF CRYPTOSPORIDIUM OOCYSTS IN STREAM WATERS
Determination of Cryptosporidium oocysts. To improve surveillance for cryptosporidium oocysts in water, the US Environmental Protection Agency developed method 1622 wich consists of filtration, concentration, immunomagnetic separation, fluorescent antibody and 4,6 diamidino-2-phenylcidde (DAPI) counter-staining and microscopic evaluation. Method 1622 has been validated for use in detecting oocysts in source and treated waters. However, more data are needed to ad characterize the performance of this method for determination of oocyst concentrations in surface waters that may serve resources of drinking water.
