EVALUATION OF SEQUENCING BATCH REACTOR (SBR) AND SEQUENCING BATCH BIOFILM REACTOR (SBBR) FOR BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENT REMOVAL FROM SIMULATED WASTEWATER CONTAINING GLUCOSE AS CARBON SOURCE
Development of an enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) sludge to evaluate the performance of a SBR and of a SBBR for simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal from synthetic wastewater containing glucose as an organic substrate. Demonstration that EBPR sludge could be implemented in a short period of 36 days using cow dung as seed material. 3 reactors were operated with suspended biomass and polyurethane foam and produced altogether a nitrification rate greater than 90%, a phosphorous removal of more than 80% and a nitrogen removal of 48% and 62%
