ENERGY AND COSTS OF LEAKY PIPES : TOWARD COMPREHENSIVE PICTURE

The paper focuses on costs of leaky pipes – notably energy, a factor which is usually overlooked. Following a presentation of the relationship between water loss and energy in pipe segments, the analysis is extended to distribution networks. The paper underlines that the many externalities associated with leaks are heterogeneous, and indeed some may be positive such as the tendency to reduce water age.
