COMPARATIVE INVESTIGATIONS ON COD-REMOVAL IN SEQUENCING BATCH REACTORS AND CONTINUOUS FLOW PLANTS
Comparison of three different types of reactors for the enhancement of COD removal from municipal wastewater, during a period of 2,5 years. The idea is to determine the influence of the mixing characteristics on the treatment processes and the effluent quality. The reactors were: a completely mixed reactor, a cascade of three reactors each one having a third of the completely reactor and a sequency batch reactor. Many correlations are proposed that show influence of temperature, mixing characteristics closer to the plug flow and the age of sludge. The SBR reactor shows an excellent performance. Dynamic simulation calculations to describe theoritically the kinetics.
