COMBINED BIOLOGICAL AND OZONE TREATMENT OF LOG YARD RUN-OFF
Batch biological treatment of log yard run-off reduces biological oxygen demand, tannin and lignin concentration by 99%, 80% and 90% respectively. Determination of the kinetics of biodegradation using a respirometer and the Monod and Tessier model. Ozone pretreatment reducing BOD and COD concentration by < 10% but with a larger non-bio-degrabable fraction of residual COD. However ozonation does not improve the effluent in relation with the toxicity but ozonation increases BOD by 38% due to conversion of COD to BOD.
