BIOFILM MONITORING : A PERFECT SOLUTION IN SEARCH OF A PROBLEM

An integrated system of biofilm monitoring and data interpretation to assess the effect of biofilm heterogeneity on biofilm activity. Discretizing biofilm can be serve as a tool to quantify the consequences if ignoring the spacial distribution of the measure parameters, and help in the selection of parameters that are suitable for monitoring. It has been shown that heterogeous biofilm can be ten times mores active, in term of glucose consumption rate, than a homogeneous biofilm.
