ANT COLONY OPTOMIZATION FOR DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS
Presentation of a formulation for applying Ant Colony optimisation algorithms (ACOAs) to the optimal design of water distribution system (WDS). A decision was placed on each potential pipe in the system. Pheromone intensities and heuristic values were associated with each of these choices. Application to two benchmark WDS optimisation problems. ACOAs appeared as an attractive alternative to Generic Algorithms for the optimal design of WDS. Although, future research in this field should focus on other WDS optimisation problems.
